California State Standards
The California Standards are a set of expected learning principles for K-12 students across the United States beginning first with math and language arts that build upon the strengths and lessons of California’s previous state standards. The new standards are designed and evidence-based on the highest, most effective models as well as the collaborated efforts of teachers, researchers and leading experts from states across the country and countries around the world. They will provide a clear and consistent understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. Students will learn problem solving, communication skills, both independent and collaborative, while delving into a rigorous content relevant to the real world; providing the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With our students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy and our society.
This three-minute video explains how the Common Core State Standards, which have been adopted and enhanced by the state of California, will help students achieve at high levels and help them learn what they need to know to get to graduation and beyond.
